Carnations

The carnation, one of the oldest flowers in the world, is a lightly perfumed perennial plant, believed to be native to the Mediterranean. The natural color of a carnation is a pinkish-purple, but it has been cultivated to include green, yellow, red, and white varieties.

Sending carnations is a special way of sending a significant message to one’s beloved. It is an incredibly versatile flower, long lasting and is treasure of joy! Carnation blooms last a long time even after they are cut. Those flowers have become symbolic of mother's love and also of Mother's Day as well. Carnations are also commonly referred to by their scientific name, "Dianthus", the name given by the Greek botanist Theopharastus. They got the name Dianthus from two Greek Words - "dios", referring to the god Zeus, and "anthos", meaning flower. Carnations are thus known as the "The Flowers of God".
